Tatarstan has achieved impressive results in reducing harmful emissions, despite the growth of industrial production and an increase in GRP. According to the latest State Report from the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, in 2024, the volume of pollutants in the atmosphere decreased by 8.3 thousand tons, which is 1.9% of the total volume of emissions. The five-year indicator looks even more significant – from 2020 to 2024, gross emissions decreased by 9.2%, although the republic's economy demonstrated steady growth, reports Tatar-Inform. As specialists noted, such results were achieved thanks to comprehensive modernization of industrial enterprises, where the efficiency of gas purification installations now exceeds 96%. Recovery systems, closed-type flare installations are being widely implemented in factories, and there is a transition to more environmentally friendly types of fuel.
Tatarstan has achieved particular success in reducing transport emissions – over the past five years, their volume has decreased by 27%. This breakthrough was made possible by increasing the share of vehicles belonging to high environmental classes, actively transitioning transport to natural gas, and developing the corresponding infrastructure cluster.
Despite the positive dynamics, the republic currently ranks 11th among the regions of Russia in terms of gross emissions and 13th in emissions from stationary sources. However, experts emphasize that the very fact of reducing the environmental burden against the backdrop of active growth in industry and the transport network can already be considered a significant success.
