How to grill shashlik and avoid a fine of up to 50,000 rubles

      With the arrival of warm days and the final melting of snow in summer cottages and private plots, residents of the republic are massively opening the picnic season. However, careless handling of fire while grilling shashlik or burning garbage can lead to significant monetary fines. We explain what rules are in effect in Tatarstan in 2026 so that outdoor recreation is not spoiled by fines.

      Where it is allowed to cook shashlik: distances and requirements. While the region has not introduced a special fire safety regime, the general norms of the Ministry of Emergency Situations apply. Open flames can only be kindled in special containers: a barbecue, a metal barrel, or in a pit at least 30 cm deep and up to 1 meter wide. The minimum distance from the fire to any buildings is 50 meters, and to coniferous trees and forest areas is 100 meters. All dry vegetation, branches, and garbage must be removed from around the fire pit for 10 meters.

      For owners of garden and summer cottage plots, the conditions are more lenient: if a barbecue is used, the distance from the house is allowed to be only 5 meters, and the clean zone around it can be 2 meters. Violators face administrative responsibility under Article 20.4 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation. The usual fine for individuals ranges from 5,000 to 15,000 rubles. If a fire caused by the campfire results in property destruction or harm to health, the fine increases to 40,000–50,000 rubles.

      Forest campfires and the fire hazard season. Separate and stricter rules apply in the forest. Under Article 8.32 of the Administrative Offenses Code, the fine for starting a fire in a forest area can reach 30,000 rubles. During the fire hazard period, which begins after the snow melts and lasts until the autumn rains, any campfires in the forest are strictly prohibited. Rescuers remind us that adhering to these norms will protect not only your budget but also nature and neighboring houses from fire. Plan your picnics in advance, choose equipped places or your own barbecue at the dacha while observing all distances, and then shashlik will bring only joy.
