40 years later: the memory of the heroes of Chernobyl was honored in Zainsk

      Participants and liquidators of the accident shared their memories, while specialists from the Social Fund answered all questions.

      At the client service of the Social Fund of Russia in the city of Zainsk, based at the Center for Communication of the Elderly, a meeting was held dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster. The participants of the event included those who personally faced the radiation threat — the liquidators of the consequences of the catastrophe. The event opened with a minute of silence: those present honored the memory of the fallen liquidators and the victims of the tragedy that changed the lives of millions.

      Lilia Kamalyukova, head of the client service in the Zainsk district, warmly welcomed those gathered and thanked them for their courage and selflessness. “We bow low to you, our dear heroes. You stopped the disaster at the cost of your own health, and we will never forget this feat,” she said.

      Lilia Kamalyukova also reminded everyone how fragile the surrounding world is and detailed the social support measures that the Social Fund currently provides to the Chernobyl heroes. Then, a lecture titled “Echo of Chernobyl. The Feat of the Liquidators” was read for the guests by the Russian Society “Knowledge.” It left no one indifferent and helped restore the picture of those terrible days.

      After the official part, the participants of the meeting shared personal memories. They spoke about the treachery of radiation and how, had they not fulfilled their duty to the end, the consequences could have been much more devastating. The meeting flowed into a warm conversation over a cup of tea — in an informal setting, guests were able to ask their pressing questions and receive comprehensive answers.

      At the end of the event, the organizers helped everyone who wished to establish a digital ID in the “MAX” system — for convenient access to government services and necessary resources.
