      With the arrival of warm weather, pit bikes and motorcycles are appearing on the roads of Tatarstan, operated by teenagers. Parents face criminal liability under Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for each traffic accident involving a minor driver.

      Spring Threat on the Roads

      As warm weather arrives, seasonal types of transport such as pit bikes, motorcycles, and mopeds are taking to the roads of Tatarstan. Often, teenagers without licenses or safe driving skills get behind the wheel, leading to tragedies. At a meeting of the Government Commission of the Republic of Tatarstan on ensuring road safety, a strict decision was made: the Investigative Committee will be informed of every traffic accident involving a minor driver. The goal is to hold parents or legal representatives accountable under Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code.

      Traffic Accident Statistics in Tatarstan

      In the first three months of 2026, 543 traffic accidents were registered in the republic. 63 people died, and 677 were injured. Compared to the same period last year, the total number of accidents has decreased. However, there is a worrying trend: the number of fatalities has increased, while the number of injuries has decreased.

      Main Causes of Fatal Accidents

      Among the main causes of traffic accidents with fatalities, traffic police highlight:

      - head-on collisions;

      - pedestrian accidents;

      - driving under the influence of alcohol.

      Each of these factors makes an accident deadly.

      Preventive Measures

      Preventive measures continue in the republic. In April, the "Oncoming Lane" campaign is being repeated to prevent the most dangerous collisions. A repeat of the "Pedestrian" campaign is planned for June. Special attention is being paid to children's safety. Acting Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Tatarstan, Ayrat Samigullin, emphasized:

      "It is necessary to convey to everyone: a child safety seat is not a whim of the State Traffic Inspectorate, but a guarantee of the child's life and health."

      Responsibility of Parents

      The new measure concerns not only drivers but also those who allow teenagers to get behind the wheel. If a minor becomes involved in a traffic accident, parents face criminal liability under Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This is a serious reason to think twice before buying a motorcycle or pit bike for a child.
