In three months, residents of Tatarstan lost 1.2 billion rubles due to fraudsters
According to the results of the first three months of the current year, fraudsters deceived residents of Tatarstan out of more than one billion rubles. Last year, during the same period, the amount of damage was higher.
From January to March 2026, 3,400 cases of fraud and theft from bank accounts were recorded in Tatarstan, resulting in losses of 1.2 billion rubles for the region's residents. This was reported by Radis Yusupov, who holds the position of operational officer for particularly important cases in the department for combating property crimes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, as reported by RBC. As the law enforcement officer clarified, despite the fact that this amount is quite significant, it is less than that recorded for the same period in 2025. The difference is 53 million rubles. One of the most recent cases of fraud involved deceiving eight residents of the republic, including one pensioner, an employee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the National Guard, as specified by the head of the department for supervising the investigation and operational-search activities of the Prosecutor's Office of Tatarstan, Mikhail Zhelaev. As a result of the fraudsters' actions, the victims lost 16 million rubles, 11 million of which belonged to the pensioner. At the same time, as Yusupov noted, the methods of fraud have changed little. He specified that these are mainly incoming calls from alleged employees of bank security services and police, as well as messages about hacking or unauthorized access to computer information. There are also cases of deceiving relatives of participants in the Special Military Operation, offering additional benefits or providing orders and medals. To protect against fraudsters, the law enforcement officer suggested using the self-ban mechanism on loans. The Deputy Minister of Digitalization of Tatarstan, Albert Yakovlev, reported that 681 thousand residents of the region have set it up through "Gosuslugi," and more than 56 thousand through the MFC. It was previously reported that Tatarstan ranked in the top 5 regions for the number of loan applications.
