Inflation in Tatarstan accelerated to 7% in March 2026, becoming the leader in the country
As of March 2026, the annual inflation rate in the consumer market of the Republic of Tatarstan reached 7.08%, showing a noticeable acceleration compared to February's values, when the rate was recorded at 6.86%.
According to the regional branch of the Bank of Russia – the National Bank for the Republic of Tatarstan, which is part of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the inflation rate in the republic for March was higher than the average values in the Volga Federal District, where the corresponding figure was 6.67%. Moreover, as RBC clarifies, the price increase in the republic significantly exceeded the nationwide annual inflation rate, which was recorded at 5.86%. As explained by the regulator's press service, the largest contribution to inflation in March came from the rising costs in the service sector. Non-food products also demonstrated an increase in price, but their rate of increase was significantly lower than in the service segment. Prices for food products increased quite moderately during the reporting month. Analysts emphasized that the annual price growth for services was higher than the overall inflation level in the republic, while the price increase for both food and non-food products was below this indicator. A noticeable difference In the food segment, the annual price increase compared to March of last year was 6.75%. Alcoholic beverages saw the most significant price increase, rising by 30.53%. The second place in terms of growth rates was taken by bread and bakery products, whose prices soared by 11.3%. Prices for public catering services also rose significantly – by 10.49%. At the same time, deflation was recorded in several socially significant commodity groups: sugar decreased in price by 1.17%, pasta and cereals fell by 4.76%, and the cost of oils and fats dropped by 5.56%. Non-food products increased in price by 3.24% year-on-year, which is significantly lower than food inflation. The main driver of growth in this category was motor fuel, which increased in price by 15.36%. Printed publications also saw a noticeable price increase – by 13.17%, and medical goods – by 10.78%. Meanwhile, the market for non-food products also observed price reductions: communication devices became cheaper by 16.95%, radio and television goods by 9.41%, and various tools and equipment by 7.44%. The largest contribution to inflation came from the service sector, where the annual price growth was 12.33%. The record holders for price increases were household services with a growth of 19.55%, sanatorium and health services, which increased by 18.55%, and housing and communal services, which rose by 17.25%. The only category of services that showed a decrease in cost year-on-year was services in the field of foreign tourism, which became cheaper by 5.95%.
