The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Tatarstan has published statistics indicating a significant reduction in the number of officially registered peasant farms and individual entrepreneurs engaged in the agricultural sector of the region's economy.
According to "Komsomolskaya Pravda-Kazan," citing data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Tatarstan, over the past five years, the number of peasant farms and individual entrepreneurs in agriculture has decreased by 32 percent. As of 2026, there are approximately 398 thousand personal subsidiary farms and only two thousand six hundred peasant farms in the republic, which is the lowest figure in recent years. At the same time, as noted by the source, the total gross agricultural output produced in Tatarstan for the year 2025 reached an impressive mark of 400 billion rubles, demonstrating a growth of 7.3 percent compared to the previous reporting period. The publication notes that small forms of farming in the countryside continue to play a significant role in its provision, accounting for about 40 percent of the total volume. However, industry experts and specialists note that farmers are massively leaving the official status of peasant farms due to a combination of negatively influencing factors, among which the key ones are low purchase prices for products, high rates on commercial and investment loans, and increasing bureaucratic burdens in terms of reporting. It was previously reported that Tatarstan is proposing to launch a four-year program aimed at developing horse breeding starting in 2027. As part of the new program, it is planned to consider the allocation of subsidies for the development of horse breeding, increasing livestock, taking into account the growing demand for horse meat, as well as the development of equestrian sports and agritourism.
