       The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree to hold the fifth Russia – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Kazan. It is scheduled for June 2026.

      

       Based on the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, a special organizational committee has been established for comprehensive preparation and subsequent conduct of the summit. The head of the organizing committee is the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation for foreign policy issues, Yuri Ushakov, RBC notes. According to the decree, the personal composition of the committee, which will include representatives of relevant ministries, agencies, and the leadership of the Republic of Tatarstan, will be approved within the next month. The financial provision for all expenses related to the organization and conduct of the international forum is entrusted to the Government of the Russian Federation. As clarified by the press service of the "Roscongress" foundation, which acts as the main operator of the business program of the event, the summit is planned to be held in Kazan from June 17 to 19, 2026. The upcoming event will have a special, anniversary character, as it is timed to the 35th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and ASEAN. It is expected that the heads of state and government of ASEAN member countries, leaders of relevant ministries and agencies overseeing economic and humanitarian blocks, as well as representatives of various regional associations and international organizations will participate in the summit. According to "Roscongress," the agenda of the forum is planned to include issues of summarizing long-term and multifaceted cooperation, considering options for interaction in political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as exchanging views on the current situation. It should be noted that ASEAN is one of the most dynamically developing regional organizations, uniting 10 states: the Sultanate of Brunei, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Indonesia, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Republic of Singapore, and the Republic of the Philippines. The Russia – ASEAN summit will be a central, but by no means the only event in Kazan's busy international calendar for 2026.
