      The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, responded to complaints from residents of the Kazan village of Otary about the foul-smelling sludge fields. According to them, the fields have been located near the village and the Volga River for several decades. The sludge fields are intended for dewatering and stabilizing the sediments formed during the treatment of sewage. However, over such a long period, the violations identified as a result of inspections have not been rectified, although funds for the reclamation of the fields were allocated until 2025. As a result, a sharp unpleasant odor is spreading in the village, which local residents, including children, are forced to breathe. People complain of deteriorating health and the emergence of chronic diseases. In this regard, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan has initiated a criminal case. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, requested a report on the preliminary and final results of the investigation from the head of the Tatarstan Investigative Committee, Valery Lipsky. The execution of the order has been placed under control at the central office of the agency, the Investigative Committee reported.
