Emergency repair work has begun at the Ushkova House in Kazan.
In Kazan, at the Ushkova House on Kremlin Street, which is a federal cultural heritage site, planned emergency works have begun. This was reported by the press service of the RT Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage. As specified by the department, the necessary permits for the work have been issued to a licensed organization by the relevant committee. Previously, specialists inspected the foundation, walls, roof, and unique interiors of the building, recording damages and defects. Following the technical examination, the commission established that part of the structures is in an emergency state, and the conduct of emergency works has been deemed necessary. The work is planned to strengthen the foundations and perform cutoff waterproofing, reinforce the walls and rubble-concrete arches, conduct waterproofing of the basement walls, and partially replace the roof. After this stage is completed, a full restoration will begin, preserving and restoring the historical interiors of the Ushkova House, including the grotto and parquet hall. The building is planned not only to be returned to its historical appearance but also to be adapted for modern use, maintaining its public function for the residents and guests of Kazan. Announcing the start of emergency works, the chairman of the RT Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, Ivan Gushchin, previously noted that the site has an investor interested in preserving the historical building and developing the adjacent area. The department also reported that the project for adapting the Ushkova House has not yet been submitted, but its development is underway. The house of Zinaida Nikolaevna Ushkova has the status of a federal cultural heritage site. The exact date of its original construction is unknown, but in 1904-1908, the building was reconstructed according to the design of architect Karl Myufke. After that, it acquired eclectic features with a predominance of Empire and Baroque elements. The interiors of the rooms differ in style variety: here are represented neo-Gothic, Bonapartist Empire, Rococo, and pseudo-Eastern motifs. From 1919 to 2020, the building housed the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan. Photo: okn.tatarstan.ru
