A resident of Tatarstan, falling for a scheme involving "financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine," lost nearly 2 million.
A 67-year-old resident of Chistopol gave almost two million rubles to scammers who used schemes involving the so-called "financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine." This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan. The woman told the police that she received a message in a messenger app: it contained a link that supposedly opened access to a household chat. The next day, the pensioner discovered that she could not log into her personal account on the state services website. After that, a man called her, introducing himself as a law enforcement officer. The interlocutor informed the pensioner about a data leak regarding her bank accounts and attempts to transfer funds for the purpose of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "By intimidating and misleading the woman, the criminal, under the pretext of protecting her from accusations of sponsoring the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as for supposedly conducting investigative actions, demanded that she cash out all funds from her accounts and transfer them to the accounts he specified. The victim, frightened, transferred the scammers a sum of 1.9 million rubles," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan reported. A criminal case has been initiated for fraud on a particularly large scale.
