In Kazan, there will be night tours at the zoo.

      The Kazan Zoo Botanic Garden has prepared new visiting formats for July and August, united by the theme of caring for nature, getting to know animals and the plant world, as reported on the official portal of the city of Kazan. On July 4, there will be a tour with an ornithologist, and on July 10, a night tour of the "Zambezi River" area. The program also includes meetings with specialists, botanical plein airs, film screenings with lectures by zoologists, and drawing classes for adults. On July 25, a botanical Open Space Market will take place in collaboration with "Nature store" on the historical territory of the zoo botanic garden among ancient trees and the oldest greenhouses in Russia. Visitors can expect plants, products from local brands, workshops, and lectures. In mid-August, the zoo botanic garden will celebrate World Elephant Day – starting this year, the holiday will become annual. Guests will see new residents – Asian elephant calves Sugar and Luck, who have arrived from Laos. The girls are settling into their new home, their move went smoothly, they have a good appetite, and their diet is expanding. In September, the zoo botanic garden will hold its first International Seminar on the Welfare of Elephants, Rhinos, and Hippos with the participation of specialists from zoos in Eurasia. Also in September, the FuchsFest will take place to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founder of the zoo botanic garden, Karl Fuchs, featuring workshops, lectures, and tours.

      In the first half of 2026, 59 offspring were born in the zoo botanic garden: from rock hyraxes, Nile lechwe antelopes, Chapman’s zebras, cat lemurs, saker falcons, Canadian geese, and shelducks. Special mention is made of the work on returning red-listed saker falcons to the wild: 18 chicks hatched, 11 have already been released with GPS trackers. Amur tigers Basur and Sayana, rescued in the Khabarovsk region, are also settling in.

      The botanical department has collected seeds from nearly 200 plant species and is exchanging with botanic gardens from Sochi to Sakhalin. 28 new plants have been grown from cuttings. Over the half-year, the zoo botanic garden welcomed 270,000 guests. The collection includes 143 species of animals and 1,136 species and cultivars of plants, many of which are listed in the Red Books.
