On the eve of the Komsomol's birthday, KIU recalled important chapters in the history of the youth movement.

      At the Kazan Innovative University named after V.G. Timiryasov a meeting titled “Important Pages of the Country’s History and the Youth Movement” was held, timed to the birthday of the Komsomol, which is celebrated annually on October 29.

      On that day in 1918, at the I All‑Russian Congress of Unions of Working and Peasant Youth a decision was made to create the Russian Communist Union of Youth (RKSM) — an organization that later became known as the All‑Union Leninist Communist Youth League (Komsomol, VLKSM). The Komsomol played a huge role in the formation of the country’s youth movement and became a symbol of active civic stance and service to society.

      At the meeting KIU students learned how the youth organization originated and developed, what values united the young men and women of past years, and why the ideas of the Komsomol remain relevant today.

      Addressing the participants were KIU’s First Vice‑Rector, Vice‑Rector for Research Igor Izmailovich Bikeev; the university’s head of security and veteran of the Komsomol movement Farid Zavdatovich Gatiyatullin; and KIU Professor Basir Gaptelbarievich Kadyrov.

      The speakers shared their personal stories of participating in the Komsomol, spoken about the people the organization brought them together with, and about a time when youth were united by a common goal — to be useful to their country. They emphasized that for many the Komsomol became a school of life, where they learned to take responsibility, work in a team, help others and believe in their own strength.

      Komsomol members built, educated, inspired, and responded to the most serious challenges of their time. It was a movement of those who wanted to leave a mark and make the world around them better. That is why its legacy is still felt today — in modern student and volunteer associations, the “Movement of the First” and other initiatives where young people continue the traditions of active participation in social life.

      The meeting at KIU served as a reminder that the history of the Komsomol is a history of energy, enthusiasm and faith in the future, which even today unites generations of young people ready to act and change the world for the better.
