The Supreme Court of Tatarstan refused to release the former mayor of Nizhnekamsk, Ramil Mullin, from pre-trial detention, deciding to extend his stay in the isolation facility until June 3. The Supreme Court of Tatarstan recognized the decision of the Naberezhnye Chelny City Court to keep the former mayor of Nizhnekamsk, Ramil Mullin, in the pre-trial detention center until June 3 as lawful. As reported by the "Real Time" portal, the defense's appeals to replace the actual arrest with a milder measure of restraint were rejected. Mullin, accused in a case of fraud and abuse of office regarding payments for selecting contractors for the special military operation and allocating premises for a branch of the boarding school "SOlNCE," participated in the hearing from the pre-trial detention center in Chistopol. He reiterated that he provides the investigation with all necessary information but does not admit guilt, claiming that he has not committed any illegal acts. His interests in court were represented by two lawyers who insisted on mitigating the measure of restraint. The criminal case against Mullin and unidentified officials of the Nizhnekamsk district was initiated on December 3. The former head was detained on the same day, and the next day he was charged with three episodes: abuse of office for selfish interest by a group of individuals in collusion and two frauds totaling more than 35 million rubles. It was previously reported that Radmir Belyaev, head of the Nizhnekamsk district, declared a three-day mourning period due to the fire at the "Nizhnekamskneftekhim" enterprise. In his address, he emphasized that this is a time of mourning and support. Information about a powerful explosion at the plant in Nizhnekamsk became known on March 31. As a result of the incident, three people died, and another 72 were injured.
